I had this same problem back in December, but it went away after changing computers. Now, it is back.
My problem is this: Every time I open WxSolution, the Vantage Pro 2 console simply loses reception, and the "R" appears in the lower-right of the console screen. This problem does not occur when I open VirtualVP, WeatherLink, or Cumulus - only WxSolution. The reception remains lost for a certain period of time - anywhere between 30 seconds and several minutes, it seems - then finally returns. While the reception is gone, none of the weather parameters on the VP2 console update.
This issue had not been occurring for me after changing computers in December. However, I upgraded WeatherLink today, requiring me to unplug the datalogger (serial version) and then replug it in. Apparently, this is the change that has caused the problem with WxSolution causing the lost reception to return.
While the console does eventually gain its reception back, I'm worried that the problem could get worse, and that it could eventually become difficult to use WxSolution due to the reception loss period that occurs whenever I open the program. While I thankfully don't have to close and reopen WxSolution often (I've gone weeks, perhaps months, at a time without doing so), the problem does occur every time I open it now.
If anyone has any insight or feedback on this issue, it would be much appreciated. While I may be finding a way around this problem for the time being, it would certainly be beneficial if I could fix it now. Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have.

I'd email Dan Hanson at Thunderhead Tech and ask his advice.

I'd email Dan Hanson at Thunderhead Tech and ask his advice. Good idea. He's been helping me out with a WxClient issue recently, but once I resolve that I will see what he says. Thankfully the issue is by no means urgent, as it is rare that I even need to close and re-open WxSolution.

Was there any resolution to this problem? I just got my VP2 up and going and I am having the same issue. It seems like its a problem with the virtual serial port. On my system it seems like it is not communicating 50% of the time.
Thanks for any comments, --Brian

Personally, I think this happens with all software, it's just that WxSolution is the only software that shows the temporary "reception loss."

My apologies for not checking this thread and missing the responses from last month.
Brian, I haven't actually resolved the problem, but I have really minimized its impact. Since I don't need to open and close WxSolution often at all (I've gone months without doing so, usually just doing it for a software upgrade or something like that) and the problem only occurs when I open the program, I rarely have to deal with it. That said, I hope your issue is not that the communication is down 50% of the time regardless of startup issues, as in that case it's a different problem I'd imagine...but I'd definitely e-mail Dan Hanson if it's significant.
Gary, that's definitely a possibility. I don't open/close the other software I run (WeatherLink and Cumulus currently) often enough to see if problems occur then as well. While I've never noticed a problem with those, it could just be the combination of what I'm running overall. I'm just glad it only occurs at startup & usually fixes itself within a few minutes.

Hi Guys sorry this has taken so long. I have good news, I finally got my problem resolved. After swapping out the computer, cables and the USB data logging module it turns out none of this was the issue. All the time i was using the virtual com port on the USB module. I switched it to straight USB mode even though Davis recommends against it and voila. Now I get a solid connection all the time. Thanks for all the comments. I love Dans software and am glad I get to use it again.
Thanks again, --Brian
